Tips for Creating a Video for your Business

Whether you’re creating a marketing video, a product demonstration video, or even an internal communication video for your business, there are some key aspects that you need to think about both before and during your filming.

Video is an excellent way to get a message across, but in order to get your message across clearly, there are some things that you must get right. So, bearing this in mind, here are some top tips for creating a great video for your business:

Planning

As with any project, planning is absolutely central to a successful video. This means that you need to have a detailed plan about what happens, when and by whom. You then need to decide on other aspects such as which camera will be used (if you are using multiple cameras) and what lighting you will need at each point.

Target audience

Part of the planning process – in fact, probably the most important part, is understanding thoroughly who your video is being aimed at. If you are demonstrating a product, for example, is it people who already understand certain aspects, or is it someone who has never used anything similar before. If you are making a marketing film, who are you aiming your marketing at? Now you need to adapt your plan accordingly.

Distribution

Think about where you are planning on distributing your video. This will affect aspects such as the quality that you need, and, for example if you want to release your video in multiple languages, it is easier to have someone talking off camera than using dubbing etc.

Watch similar videos

It is a good idea to study some videos made by other people who are looking to do something similar to you. Don`t steal their ideas or infringe on their copyright but look for things that you liked (and didn`t like) about their video and bear these in mind when coming up with yours.

Media

Think about what devices people will be using to view your video. If you are expecting people to be using smartphones, for example, think about using more close-ups as screens are pretty small.

Quality

If you want people watching to think that you are professional in your business, you need to create a professional quality video. How much attention you pay to the quality of your video speaks volumes to viewers about the quality of your business. In particular you need to pay attention to the audio, as people can handle a relatively poor picture quality, but bad audio will have them switching off.

Call to action

Just with almost any other business communication, add a call to action in at the end of your video. It might be to buy a product, visit your website or implement a new strategy inside your business, but regardless, you need to tell people what it is that you want them to do.

They key to a great business video is thorough planning and a little creativity. By knowing who you are aiming for, what you want the final outcome to be like, and how you’re going to do it, you can ensure that you get the most success from your business video.
